Does a Food Truck Need a Website?
Food trucks are such cool businesses, right? We all love them. They’re incredibly convenient. They make delicious food. They’re relatively inexpensive. They’re just awesome.
We all agree that they’re awesome. BUT… does a food truck need a website? Or does a strong Instagram following and good content on said instagram account do the trick?
Everyone needs a website
To start things off, let me just be clear that EVERYONE needs a website in today’s world – no excuses. If you want to have a good shot at getting your name out there and really ramping up your business, you are going to need a website.
I cannot think of a single company in any kind of industry that would not benefit from having a well-designed website. If you know of any, please do let me know. I don’t like spreading false information.
Well, that pretty much answers the question, right? Does a food truck need a website? Absolutely!
Article done.
No, of course it’s not done yet!
Let’s look at all of the reasons why specifically would a food truck need a website.
Location
I think that this is a common issue for people, but it is definitely my biggest qualm with food trucks. Half of the time, I cannot figure out where they are when I am wanting to go buy their food!
Sometimes it is on Instagram. Sometimes you can find a schedule. Sometimes, though, I’ve found that to be unreliable. It’s not always updated. Things change. So what source do you trust?
If you’re dying for a soft pretzel, and you find a super cool food truck that makes the best soft pretzels. Where do you look?
On multiple occasions, I have not been able to locate the truck that we want to find, and I end up giving up the search all together. Who knows how many potential customers there are out there just like me? We are dying to buy the product, but we can’t figure out how to get it!
One way to make this waaaaaay easier is to build out a nice website and put either a schedule on it that is updated frequently, or, even better, put a map on the website that shows a live location of where the truck is at.
This would be a game changer for so many food trucks! If everyone knows that they can find you on your website, you will have die-hard customers (or new customers) flocking to your truck. You might even have to get a second truck!
Personality
People love food trucks because they usually have a bit of character and personality to go along with the food. They’re a really fun spot to meet some really cool people who make incredible food. It’s great!
Showing your personality and character can probably be done pretty well through social media, but a website is also a great place to promote some of this.
If somebody new follows you on Instagram, they will probably miss out on all of the cool posts you’ve made in the past. If somebody new finds your website, they’ll have to look at all of the content that you’ve written for your website. It’s a little bit more permanent!
You can also tag on a cool blog to your website where you can really let your personality shine!
Menu
One of the aspects of a food truck that makes people want to step up and check it out is a little bit of that “ooo that looks cool! Wonder what kind of food they make..” factor.
That being said, this next little bit might be a little unconventional…
However…
Those people will still be around and will always be around. This won’t affect them, I promise. With a website, you can have your menu available for everyone to find! And they’ll be able to find it with ease! The benefit of this is that you will attract people that wouldn’t have found you in the first place! Other people will be able to find your truck online and can get a good idea of whether or not they want to try out your food. If they do, then they’d be more willing to search you out (through your schedule or locator), and purchase your product.
Game changer!
One other thing for this. Include your prices with the menu!!!
You can read a little bit about why you should do this here, or you can check out the book “They Ask, You Answer” by Marcus Sheridan. Pick up a copy here. It will change the way you do marketing completely.
People want to know what they’re going to have to pay!
These are just a few of the reasons that, if you have a food truck, you may want to consider having a website.
In fact, like all businesses, I would encourage you to engage in all types of digital marketing (including social media. Social media is GREAT).
